AMONG THE HIGHLIGHTS:
• We start with a brief tour of the Main Hall of the Royal Courts of Justice, the gothic revival masterpiece of lofty pinnacles and turret-topped towers likened to a beautiful cathedral,
• We move into the area of the Inns of Middle Temple & Inner Temple wandering through picturesque squares, tranquil cloisters and stunning small gardens, overlooking the Thames, while learning about the rich history of the area.
• We end with a tour of the interior of Temple Church. It is one of the true glories of the Inns of Court. Entrance fee £3 (payable on entry, please bring cash)

ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE WALKS

• The cost of the walk is £15 per person (excluding train fare, refreshments, entrance to Temple Church & lunch).
• We meet on Charing Cross Station concourse under the clock at 10.30am promptly.
• You will need to catch the 9.00am train starting at Ashford or, if more convenient, Pluckley (9.06) & Headcorn (9.13) arriving at Charing Cross 10.24am
• Collectively we will journey by bus to the Royal Courts of Justice. We will enjoy our usual coffee & pastries before staring the walk.
• The morning ends with an optional lunch at the Edgar Wallace pub. A hidden gem serving traditional & keenly priced pub food.

Standen House is a fine example of Arts & Crafts architecture and decorative art, with beautiful Morris & Co, interiors . It was designed by Philip Webb for James & Margaret Beale who chose this idyllic setting with stunning views across the Weald for their country retreat. The interior is decorated with Morris carpets, fabrics and wallpapers, complemented by a stunning collection of ceramics, artwork and a mix of period style and contemporary furniture. It is dressed for a weekend stay in 1925, so, as a visitor, you can imagine you are a weekend guest of the family. Covering 12 acres of hillside, the gardens are made up of outdoor ‘rooms’ which were used for leisure, growing fresh produce and showcasing the plant collection by Mrs Beal. The garden offers uninterrupted views across to Weir Wood Reservoir and the Ashdown Forest which will look amazing as autumn will be approaching during our visit in October. There is a delightful licenced café in a beautiful old barn offering hot drinks and snacks, soups, sandwiches and freshly made cakes.
The cost of the trip will be £20.00 per adult by luxury air conditioned coach excluding entrance fee.
Entrance is free to NT members. There is a discounted entrance fee for non-NT members of groups over 15.
 

The coach will be departing from Egerton Primary School at 9:30 but please meet at 9:20. There will be a second pickup at Charing Primary School at 9:40 but please meet at 9:30. We aim to leave  Standen House at approximately 2.30pm

Explore the most exciting city in the world and discover some of the secrets of its 2000 years of history during a complimentary morning walk led by Diane Eccles, qualified City of London Guide.

Among the highlights:                 

• We will visit St Stephens Walbrook considered Wren’s most beautiful church and St Mary Le Bow another Wren masterpiece with its elegant steeple and connections with the children’s nursery rhyme and Dick Whittington.
• We will see the City’s most famous and beautiful buildings Mansion House, Bank of England and Royal Exchange – a trio of tremendously important buildings in the City’s history..

In the afternoon:

Enjoy a private tour of the Guildhall Art Gallery housed in the stunning Guildhall complex.

Housed in the collection are pictures relating to London dating from the seventeenth century to the present day.

Victorian painting is a strong element including major works by Constable, Landseer, Millais, Rossetti, Poynter and Lord Leighton.

Ø    Train travel: Leaving your chosen station on the Charing Cross Line. 

Ø    Meet at the entrance to Cannon Street Station at 10.45 for a prompt 11.00am start

Ø    Members will be responsible for the purchase of their own tickets

Ø    A lunch has been booked at a City Pub a stone’s throw from St Paul’s where Wren used the upstairs rooms as his drawing offices.

Following on from “Painted pleats” lecture by Jacob Moss on the 8th April, an all-day guided visit to the Fan Museum and Queen’s house.

The Fan Museum, which opened in 1991, is the world’s first museum dedicated to the preservation and display of fans. It is located within two grade II* listed houses built in 1721 in the Greenwich World Heritage Site. Explore 3,000 years of fan making history.

The Queen’s House: – Home to an internationally renowned art collection, see great works by leading artists including Lowry, Turner and Canaletto as well as the iconic Armada Portrait of Queen Elizabeth I.  Inigo Jones’ architectural masterpiece is the first Classical building in the UK.

£27 to include coach travel and guided tours of both venues. Refreshments are available to purchase at the Maritime museum next door to the Queen’s house.
